Google Local SEO For Dentists

Video Lecture

Lecture Text

In this Lecture, I’ll be discussing the local search results.

As you can see local search results appear below the paid ads, and are accompanied by a map.

It varies, but typically there are around three local listings, each containing basic information like a dental office name, rating, address and phone number. There are also links to the dental office website and directions.

You definitely want your dental office to be listed within the local search results, and the best way to get ranked is to claim your business through the Google My Business interface – which is described in an upcoming lecture.

How Do I Get my Dental Office to Rank Higher in the Local Search Results?

For a dentist office, ranking well in local search results is even more important than ranking well in organic search results as the local search results are higher up on the search engine results page.

What also makes local search results desirable is that searchers have a one click link to call you, see your website, or get directions to your office.

Google provides its own tips on ranking well in local search (a link is provided below). The most important factor is making sure the Google My Business listing for your Dental Office is as complete as possible.

An independent industry study (linked to below) has shown that some of the top factors determining how well you rank in local search results are:

  • Proximity
  • Incoming Links
  • Name, Address & Phone Number
  • Consistent Listings Everywhere
  • Reviews

Each of these are explained below.

Proxmity The proximity of your dental office to where the search is being conducted matters a lot. So if someone across the street is looking for dentists, you’ll have a much higher chance of being included in the local listings than if that person was on their phone 10 miles away searching for dentists

Incoming links The more high quality incoming links you have coming in to your dental website, the better you’ll likely do in the local search results

NAP (Name, Address, Phone Number) To do well in local search results, your name address and phone number must be clearly and prominently displayed on your website.

Consistent Listings It is important that all of the directory listings for your dental practice on important websites like Yelp, Google My Business, CitySearch all have the exact same name address and phone number information. Slightly different information in each of these listings sends up the red flag that your listings are inconsistent and can hurt you in the local search results.

Reviews The overall quantity of the reviews as well as the quality of your reviews can have a direct impact on where you appear in the local search results. As a result, you’ll want to make sure you provide great service and have a system in place to get a consistent stream of reviews from your patients.
